This course is designed to produce graduates who are prepared for scientific practice in health and medical institutions, or who are equipped for entry into business and management in scientific institutions.
This course offers opportunities in the growth area of health services and management.
Career options include health services and management, and in medical research organisations in government, hospitals and industry.
There is provision for students already enrolled in a Bachelor of Medical Science or a Bachelor of Business degree to transfer to this combined degree program, provided they meet the entry requirements for the combined degree and/or have demonstrated satisfactory progress in their current program of study.
Students wishing to transfer from the combined degree program to the Bachelor of Business or Bachelor of Medical Science single degree program, and whose UAI is less than the current entry rank for the Bachelor of Business, will be required to apply for admission through UAC in the non-current school leaver category.
Mathematics; English; and at least one science subject.
This combined degree course is offered over four years full time, eight years part time, five years full time with successful completion of the Diploma in Scientific Practice (not available to international students), or five years full time with Honours. Full-time attendance is approximately 24 hours each week at the University. Part-time attendance is approximately 12 hours each week at the University. Part-time students may need to attend science classes for at least one half-day per week, in addition to evening classes.
Students are required to complete 192 credit points of study, comprising 96 credit points of medical science subjects and 96 credit points of business subjects.
Students are also encouraged to undertake the Diploma in Scientific Practice (C20038) (not available to international students), an industrial experience program requiring an additional year of full-time study.
The Diploma in Scientific Practice (C20038), a period of industrial training, is available with an additional year of full-time study. It is not offered to international students.
