Overview

This course is designed to enable students to achieve a comprehensive and advanced understanding of information technology.

This extended Master's course is designed to enable students to develop their studies in a chosen specialised area of information technology. The practical and industry-oriented nature of the course means graduates are better prepared for employment in the information technology fields. The Master of Information Technology is well recognised within the Australian IT industry.

Course aims

Graduates of this course are able to understand advanced concepts of information technology in a commercial environment and contribute to the development of IT solutions in their organisation.

Career options

Career options include positions in the IT industry, including computer graphics and gaming, database design and management, e-business, information system development, networking, programming and project management.

Additional admission requirements

Local applicants

Local applicants require:

  • a minimum qualification equivalent to a Bachelor's degree with a major in computing/information technology (or related discipline), or a Bachelor's degree plus a Graduate Diploma in computing/information technology (or related discipline) from a recognised Australian university, and
  • academic performance equivalent to an average mark of 60 per cent or higher in a UTS award, normally with no failures in core subjects after the first full-time year of the undergraduate degree.

Applicants with a degree from an institution other than UTS must meet the equivalent standard as required for admission of a UTS applicant.

UTS Graduate Diploma in Information Technology applicants require a 60 per cent average mark across all subjects with only one failure allowed in the first semester. The average mark is to include failed results as well as marks obtained in any second attempts or alternative electives undertaken.

International applicants

International applicants require a recognised Bachelor's degree in computing science, computer systems, IT or telecommunications with a competitive Pass.

UTS Graduate Diploma in Information Technology applicants require a 60 per cent average mark across all subjects with only one failure allowed in the first semester. The average mark is to include failed results as well as marks obtained in any second attempts or alternative electives undertaken.

Additional recognition of prior learning

Exemptions are not normally granted in this course.
