Recommended studies: students should be competent users of UNIX

Students learn about basic UNIX systems administration, with an emphasis on the provision of Internet services. The subject covers routine system administration tasks, such as managing user accounts, configuring system-level services, and monitoring the system. The Internet services component includes setting up web, email and other Internet services in UNIX. The subject emphasises the importance of system security and documentation in system administration. It is very practical in nature, and assumes prior experience with the UNIX operating system.
