Overview

UTS is a leading university provider of adult, teacher and general education courses in Australia with many academics recognised as leaders in this field. This course can be completed as a general Master of Education degree or with a major in Adult Education or Indigenous Studies. It is designed to meet the specific educational needs of those wanting to be at the forefront of learning and development in educational, vocational, school, organisational or community settings.

Graduates are well positioned to be at the cutting edge of learning and change in school, vocational, community and organisational settings. Given UTS: Education's strengths in adult and school education, the course offers distinct opportunities to study learning and education across all education sectors.

Students select electives from a wide variety of areas including educational leadership, policy, e-learning, human resource development, curriculum, communication management, assessment, program development, and many others, to form a program of study that suits their professional development needs.

Course aims

The course aims to develop expertise in understanding and managing learning, and new and more advanced knowledge in designing, implementing and evaluating educational programs.

Career options

Career options include a diverse range of educational, policy making and leadership roles such as career development, community and health education, e-learning, higher education, human resource development, indigenous development, organisational learning and development, religious education, school-based education and vocational education and training.

Admission requirements

Applicants require an undergraduate degree.

Local students apply through UAC with first round applications closing 31 October, and final round closing 31 January each year. Students majoring in Indigenous Studies apply by direct application.

International students apply through UTS International.

Course duration and attendance

The course can be completed in one year of full-time, or two years of part-time study, depending on subject choices.

The mode of delivery of electives may vary, with subjects offered in weekly, block or distance mode. Students are able to take a combination of modes.

Students taking the Indigenous Studies major are able to complete their core subjects by block mode.

Note: not all electives within this course are offered by distance and/or block. Students may only complete this course by distance/block if they select electives which are offered in those modes.

Course structure

Students must complete a total of 48 credit points.

Students completing a major in Adult Education are required to complete three core subjects and five electives. Students completing a major in Indigenous Studies complete six core subjects and two electives. Students completing the course without a specified major are required to complete two core subjects and six electives.
