This course is designed to enable students to achieve a comprehensive and advanced understanding of information technology.
The practical and industry-oriented nature of the course means that graduates are better prepared for employment in the information technology fields. The Master of Information Technology is well recognised within the Australian IT industry.
Graduates of this course will be able to understand advanced concepts of information technology in a commercial environment and contribute to the development of IT solutions within their organisation.
The course prepares students for professional positions in the IT industry including programming, information system development, database design and management, networking, project management, e-business, and computer graphics and gaming.
This course is part of an articulated program comprising the Graduate Certificate in Information Technology (C11142), the Graduate Diploma in Information Technology (C06058), the Graduate Diploma in Professional Information Technology (C06089), and the Master of Information Technology.
Local applicants require:
Applicants with a degree from an institution other than UTS must meet the equivalent standard as required for admission of a UTS applicant.
UTS Graduate Diploma in Information Technology applicants require a 60 per cent average mark across all subjects, with only one failure allowed in the first semester. The average mark is to include any failed results as well as any marks obtained in second attempts or in alternative electives undertaken.
Applicants must hold a recognised Bachelor's degree with a competitive pass.
Applicants admitted directly to the Master of Information Technology without a computing or IT undergraduate qualification are required to complete the subjects contained in the Graduate Diploma of Information Technology with 60 per cent average mark across all subjects and only one failure allowed in the first semester. The average mark is to include any failed results as well as any marks obtained in second attempts or in alternative electives undertaken.
Students failing to meet this requirement are required to exit with the Graduate Diploma in Information Technology.
Exemptions are not normally granted in this course.
The Master of Information Technology is offered on a two-year full-time or four-year part-time basis.
The Master of Information Technology totals 96 credit points, comprising eight core subjects, 12 credit points of undergraduate electives and 36 credit points of postgraduate electives.
