This course is not offered to international students.
This course is designed for practising trainers and adult educators who already have a degree (or equivalent) but who want to develop theoretical frameworks that can further challenge and enhance their present practice. This course is relevant for practitioners working in any field of vocational and workplace learning, such as adult education, health education, community education and human resource development. It focuses on practical skills that are embedded in current theory about learning and teaching. Graduates are equipped to meet the challenges of the dynamic, changing, contemporary workplace.
This course uses an inquiry-based approach to learning. The subjects are informed by nine key questions that address participants' role as educators and learners. These provide a unifying framework for learning throughout the course with the emphasis on integrating and interrogating the subject matter presented. The course is also designed to capitalise on a student's existing knowledge as a platform for further professional development. Each student has a workplace mentor and receives a visit from a UTS lecturer to their workplace. This encourages the application of theory and practice to the student's individual context and helps them to link learning at UTS with their workplace.
The aims of the course are to: develop the knowledge, skills and attributes to perform as effective vocational or workplace educators; develop self-direction in learning which enables students to continue their professional development following completion of this course; develop the ability to critically evaluate existing training practices; and develop a comprehensive understanding of current vocational education policy and practice.
Career options include workplace training and development, TAFE teaching, human resource development, community education and development, government services, vocational education, health education and other education and training roles.
