Overview
In the organisational learning component of this combined degree, students study UTS: Education and UTS: Business subjects to focus on developing skills in human resource development, management, e-learning, organisational learning and development, and change management. Students choose a major in either management or human resource development. The international studies component provides students with international experience and exposure, and the opportunity to acquire knowledge and understanding of a language and culture other than English.
Graduates have a sound working knowledge of the trends and practices sought by employers in the contemporary workplace. A strong focus on information technology and the use of e-learning in organisations gives this degree currency in today's organisations. Through the combined areas of human resource development, management and international studies, students develop the knowledge, skills and attributes required of graduates to support organisational learning and change management activities in the public or private sector.
Course aims
The course aims to provide students with the ability to:
- initiate, design, implement and evaluate sequence learning strategies that integrate individual, group and organisational learning goals
- recognise and apply theoretical concepts and principles of management and adult learning in organisational settings
- understand and apply the knowledge and skills of online and electronic learning in organisational learning contexts
- communicate, critically analyse and actively participate in the change management processes in contemporary organisational contexts
- appreciate and apply the principles of teamwork and collaboration in the design and management of learning that takes place in formal structured training and in informal learning embedded in workplace practices
- exercise sound judgment in managing resources and critically appraise, challenge and work within the norms and constraints that influence the implementation of learning strategies in organisations
- appreciate the commercial context of learning in organisational settings and the implications of this on the development and implementation of learning strategies
- recognise the diversity of organisational contexts and the effects of diversity on the possibilities for learning
- critically recognise the ethical dimensions of their work within the complex socioeconomic conditions of contemporary society
- research their own practice, and
- study and learn another language and culture.
