Overview
The Bachelor of Management in Tourism provides students with a strong understanding of the distinctive features of tourism and the tourism industry, with the knowledge and range of skills that provide the flexibility to manage effectively in an environment of significant growth and change. The course also develops students' understanding of tourism as an increasingly important social phenomenon, in order to foster a critical approach to this field of study.
The course is strongly linked to the tourism profession and industries.
Career options
Career options include destination marketing, managers in hotels, airlines and tour operations, managing and developing tourist attractions, regional tourism development and planning, research and tourist policy development, and resort and hotel management.
Admission requirements
Non-current school leavers should submit a Personal Statement to UTS by 30 November 2009.
Assumed knowledge
Any two units of English.
Recognition of prior learning
Students may apply for recognition of prior learning in subjects in which they consider themselves eligible. Equivalence of subject matter is the main criterion for recognition of prior learning in a subject successfully completed at another institution.
Course duration and attendance
The Bachelor of Management in Tourism is taught on a full-time basis. The normal time for completion is three years. Students should be aware that they are required to attend evening classes.
The Bachelor of Management in Tourism is offered at Kuring-gai campus only.
Course structure
All students must complete a total of 144 credit points made up of 24 subjects, comprising 20 core and four elective subjects.
Two electives (totalling 12 credit points) are to be chosen from a prescribed list of subjects offered by the School of Leisure, Sport and Tourism; two other electives (totalling 12 credit points) may be chosen from outside the School of Leisure, Sport and Tourism. Approval for these electives should be sought from the undergraduate program director.
Alternatively, four electives may be chosen to comprise an Event Management sub-major.
Industrial training/professional practice
The course has an extensive industry based internship program providing graduates with work ready professional skills.
