This course is offered through the National Centre for Groundwater Management in collaboration with the Faculties of Engineering and Science. It is designed to enable students to develop specialist skills in the area of groundwater management, including aspects of geology, hydrology, hydraulics and resource management.
The course provides a multidisciplinary perspective on issues of groundwater management for students working in this area and for recent graduates who would like to specialise in the field.
Groundwater studies provides students with industry-desired skills in managing groundwater resources and contaminated sites. This course covers all aspects of fundamental hydrogeology, geochemistry, groundwater modelling, geostatistics and site characterisation that allow students to contribute immediately to the groundwater industry.
Career options include groundwater consultant, groundwater modeller, hydrogeologist or hydrologist.
This course is part of an articulated program comprising the Graduate Diploma in Hydrogeology and Groundwater Management and the Master of Science in Hydrogeology and Groundwater Management (C04167).
Students may enrol in the Graduate Diploma, and subject to meeting satisfactory academic requirements, may transfer to the Master of Science program.
Applicants must hold a degree or equivalent qualification, or possess satisfactory practical or industrial experience.
Applicants must satisfy requirements which ensure their educational preparation and capability for this course and potential articulation to the Master's degree. A curriculum vitae should also be submitted.
The course may be completed in one year of full-time, or two-and-a-half to three years of part-time study.
It may be undertaken in block or distance mode. Both block and distance modes are available in Autumn semester, however, only distance mode is available in Spring semester.
Students complete 48 credit points of study comprising four core subjects, two electives (an approved postgraduate subject may replace one of the electives) and a groundwater science project.
