Overview

This course is an adult teaching qualification designed for practising trainers and adult educators who already have a degree (or equivalent) but who want to develop theoretical frameworks that can further challenge and enhance their present practice. The course is relevant for practitioners working in any field of vocational and workplace learning, such as adult education, health education, community education and human resource development. It focuses on practical skills that are embedded in current theory about learning and teaching. Graduates are equipped to meet the challenges of the dynamic, changing, contemporary workplace.

This course is a TAFE NSW recognised adult teaching qualification. It is designed to capitalise on students' existing knowledge as a platform for further professional development. Each student has a workplace mentor and is visited in the workplace by a UTS lecturer. This encourages the application of theory and practice to students' individual contexts and links learning at UTS to the workplace.

Course aims

The course aims to develop:

  • the knowledge, skills and attributes to perform as effective vocational or workplace educators
  • self-direction in learning which enables students to continue their professional development following completion of the course
  • the ability to critically evaluate existing training practices, and
  • a comprehensive understanding of current vocational education policy and practice.

Career options

Career options include positions in workplace training and development. This includes community education and development, corrective services, government services, health education in administration and policy making, human resource development, nurse education, public sector management, TAFE teaching and vocational education. It also qualifies students to take on training, coordinating, consulting and advisory positions.
