This course is not offered to international students.
This course is jointly offered by the Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery and Health and the Faculty of Education, in collaboration with expert clinicians at Royal North Shore Hospital and St Vincent's Hospital Diabetes Centres. It develops appropriately qualified students for work as health professionals in the area of diabetes education and management.
Career options include diabetes educators and managers in a variety of settings.
Applicants must have an undergraduate degree in a relevant field, such as nursing or medicine, nutrition, podiatry or pharmacy, or an equivalent qualification such as hospital-trained registered nurse with experience or an Aboriginal Health Worker qualification.
The usual requirement of one year's professional employment applies to applicants to this course and it is assumed that applicants are already working in the area of diabetes education and management.
Applicants also require access to a relevant clinical setting as there is a requirement for students to complete 80 hours of supervised clinical experience in order to successfully meet course requirements.
This course is offered on a one-year, part-time basis. It is studied through four distance education modules, which include two residential workshops in either Sydney or Brisbane.
Students must complete a total of 24 credit points of study, comprising two specified nursing subjects and two specified education subjects.

Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA)
Upon successful completion of the course, graduates are eligible for accreditation with ADEA, the diabetes educators' professional association.
