Overview

This course prepares students possessing an Associate Design Degree or Advance Diploma for entrance into the Master of Design. It examines the nature and processes of design, the roles and responsibilities of designers and their profession, and the impact of design on society.

Students may choose to specialise in visual communication, fashion and textiles, interior design or industrial design, dependent upon previous study and experience. As students come from a range of design backgrounds, the core subjects are explored in relation to all design disciplines, and all projects and group-work involve a mix of designers. This not only develops management skills, but also provides instructive comparisons through which to advance expertise.

Course aims

The course aims to further the creative design abilities of technically proficient designers and provide competent designers with more in-depth critical understanding of the contexts in which they are designing.

Career options

Career options include positions in fashion and textile design, film and television design, graphic design, industrial and product design, interior design, landscape design, visual communications, web design as well as on interdisciplinary teams.

Articulation

This course articulates with the Master of Design (C04072).

Graduates receive 24 credit points of advanced standing against the compulsory Design Studies subjects.

Additional admission requirements
