Overview
The Executive MBA is designed as a general management qualification for ambitious individuals with considerable work experience who are looking to further develop their business and strategic leadership skills. The overarching goal of the course is to produce graduates who can operate a business function, unit or organisation by building students' capabilities in technical, professional and interpersonal skills.
The Executive MBA curriculum is strongly experientially oriented and provides students with decision-making experiences that emulate the real world of business. The requirements of professional bodies; recent research and scholarship data on successful graduates; information from employers and advisory committees; and industry groups have informed the attributes and learning goals. The course is structured in such a way that students can choose to progress through the degree in a group. The cohort model is designed to foster a sense of union, facilitate networking and encourage cooperative relationships with a focus on leadership and group dynamics.
Course aims
The aim of the Executive MBA degree is to develop students' business acumen through an enhanced capacity for integrity, judgment and intuition. Executive MBA students develop advanced competency in a number of key disciplines including accounting, economics, finance, marketing and strategic management. The learning goals of the degree are designed to meet the needs of today's rapidly changing enterprises including areas such as electronic business; finance; banking; corporate accounting; marketing; operations management; employment relations; management in the public, private and international spheres; information technology; engineering; and event, tourism, sport, arts and leisure management. The focus is on developing specific skills including the ability to integrate accounting, finance, marketing and management skills for progressive solutions and sound management decisions; capacity for analysing and synthesising complex information and knowledge for tactical and strategic business decisions; effective leadership and teamwork skills; and designing innovative business models and strategies that adhere to the principles of responsible corporate governance and social responsibility.

Career options
Career options include senior general management roles in business or business unit manager, business planning, business strategist, and general management consultant.
Admission requirements
Applicants must have completed a UTS recognised bachelor's degree, or an equivalent or higher qualification, or submitted other evidence of general and professional qualifications that demonstrates potential to pursue graduate studies.
Applicants also require five years' relevant work experience at managerial or above level, or a UTS Graduate Certificate in Executive Business Administration (C11208), or a UTS Graduate Certificate in Executive Business Administration (Global) (C11244), with a credit average. All applicants are required to attend an interview with the director of the EMBA and undertake an assessment on quantitative skills. Applicants may be required to complete relevant bridging courses as advised by the director.
The English proficiency requirement for local applicants with international qualifications is: Academic IELTS: 6.5 overall with a writing score of 6.0; or TOEFL: paper based: 550-583 overall with TWE of 4.5, internet based: 79-93 overall with a writing score of 21; or AE5: Pass; or PTE: 58-64; or CAE: 176-184.
Eligibility for admission does not guarantee offer of a place.
Credit recognition
Students in the Executive MBA are not granted exemptions for any prior studies.
Course duration and attendance
The course is expected to be completed in two years of part-time study.
The course is normally only available in Spring session each year.
Teaching is conducted in both block and evening classes. Dates and times are available from the UTS timetable.
21921 Integrative Strategy and Leadership is a residential subject taught off campus.
Students must attend the EMBA Induction Day at the start of the course.
Course structure
The course comprises 96 credit points, made up of nine 8 credit point core subjects and a choice of either the Global Immersion Stream or Practice Stream (24 credit points in each stream).
Overseas study
The Global Immersion Stream includes an overseas study tour which incurs some additional costs. Further details are available from:

Articulation with UTS courses
This course is part of an articulated program comprising the Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) and the Graduate Certificate in Executive Business Administration (C11208).
Transfer to the EMBA from any existing UTS Business School postgraduate program is not permitted. Transfer out of the EMBA is only permitted in extraordinary circumstances at the discretion of the head of UTS Business School Postgraduate Programs.
