Overview
This course provides a comprehensive grounding in the underlying principles, trends and practical aspects of project, program and portfolio management: time, cost, quality, risk, procurement, human resources, integration, scope and context.
Students can select subjects according to their level of experience: Choice Block 1 provides a structured pathway into the program; and Choice Block 2 provides a greater choice for those with substantial industry experience by allowing them to choose their own pathway based on the gaps in their knowledge.
Course aims
Successful graduates of the course can:
- apply relevant theory to practice
- develop and apply project management methodologies to suit different project and organisational contexts
- communicate effectively in culturally diverse settings
- take a lead role in project, program and portfolio management
- manage relationships between key stakeholders in a variety of local and international settings

Project management is one of the fastest growing global professional disciplines in many local and international industries, including banking and finance, construction and engineering, health, IT, event management and government.
Academic requirements
Applicants must have completed a recognised Australian bachelor's degree in a related field of study, or an equivalent or higher qualification, or submitted other evidence of general and professional qualifications that demonstrates potential to pursue graduate studies.
Eligibility for admission does not guarantee offer of a place.
The English proficiency requirement for international students or local applicants with international qualifications is: IELTS: 6.5 overall with a writing score of 6.0; TOEFL: paper based: 575 overall with TWE of 4.5, internet based: 90 overall with a writing score of 21; DEEP: C
Visa requirement: To obtain a student visa to study in Australia, international students must enrol full time and on campus. Australian student visa regulations also require international students studying on student visas to complete the course within the standard full-time duration. Students can extend their courses only in exceptional circumstances.
Recognition of prior learning
Applicants with a four-year degree in a related field of study may be given up to 24 credit points of exemptions.

Articulation with UTS courses
This exit-only course is part of an articulated program comprising the Graduate Certificate in Project Management (C11005), the Graduate Diploma in Project Management, the Master of Project Management (C04006) and the Master of Business Administration (Project Management major) (C04018). Each stage is self-contained and can be undertaken through part-time or full-time study.
Exit award
This exit-only course enables students enrolled in the master's course to exit after completing 48 credit points of study and gain a graduate diploma qualification.
Professional recognition
Global accreditation through the Project Management Institute. It is also endorsed by the Australian Institute of Project Management, the Association of Project Management (UK) and the Project Management Institute of South Africa, and meets the Australian National Competency Standards for Project Management and PMBOK® (Project Management Body of Knowledge) Guide.
