99667 Clinical Theory and Clinic Level 1

Approximately 30 per cent of the undergraduate training program is devoted to gaining clinical experience in preparation for becoming a qualified traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) practitioner. This subject prepares students for the role of clinical assistant. The subject is tri-modulated:

Module 1 requires students to satisfactorily complete requisite clinical hours with respect to material covered in module 2.

Module 2 covers legal frameworks for the practice of TCM, UTS clinical protocols including basic clinical safety, EHS, infection control and ethics. Workshop training in basic treatment techniques is provided to allow students to effectively assist practitioners in UTS outpatient clinics.

Module 3 focuses on Chinese pulse diagnosis. Students are introduced to the concepts of blood flow and pressure waves, basic pulse parameters and the relationship of these to Chinese medicine diagnosis, including traditional pulse qualities.
