Japanese 6 is designed for students who have completed Japanese 5 or its equivalent. The subject aims to consolidate and further improve students' oral performance and report-writing skills and their cultural sensitivity in both formal and informal situations. By the end of this subject, students are expected to have achieved 'minimal vocational proficiency' and be able to speak the language with sufficient structural accuracy and vocabulary to participate effectively in limited conversations on social and vocational topics. By the end of Japanese 6, students are expected to be able to read and write approximately 600 kanji. The learning of the sociocultural use of the language is an integral part of this subject. Students are also required to use a range of resources that facilitate independent language learning.

Assessment: This subject has a combination of continuous assessment and final examinations for speaking, listening, reading and writing. Further details are available in the subject outline distributed in class during the first week of teaching.
