Overview

The Diploma in Scientific Practice is not a separate course in its own right but may be taken in conjunction with any of UTS: Science's undergraduate bachelors' programs.

Students must obtain suitable employment and work for a minimum of 30 weeks full time and undertake the two 6-credit-point academic subjects related to their industrial training.

The diploma is extremely beneficial to students in developing an understanding of the workplace environment and in relating their final year of coursework to the practical needs of the scientific workplace. This experience is invaluable when applying for graduate career positions.

Course aims

The course aims to develop students' generic work skills in a workplace environment. It also enables students to develop lifelong learning skills and gain a better understanding of the relationship between theory and practice.

Career options

For career options, refer to the main degree undertaken. The diploma increases students' employability by providing at least 30 weeks' work experience before graduation.

Admission requirements

This course is only available to students currently enrolled in one of UTS: Science's undergraduate bachelors' programs.

Students may apply to enrol in the diploma after completion of at least 72 credit points of science subjects at the bachelor's degree level, except for the Bachelor of Mathematics and Finance (C10155) and Bachelor of Mathematics and Computing (C10158) where students may apply after completion of a minimum of 48 credit points of science subjects.

Course duration and attendance

Students are required to obtain a minimum of 30 weeks approved full-time industrial training and to complete two semesters of academic study.

Course structure

In addition to undertaking industrial training, students are required to complete 12 credit points comprising the two industrial training subjects below.
