Requisite(s): 88300 Object and Accessory Design 2: The Cast Object
Undergraduate
Object and Accessory 3 examines the development of products to be manufactured in low volume 'soft tooling'. The semester begins with the examination of several moulded polymer products and the tooling from which they have been produced. The use of 'rapid prototyping' as a means of deriving 'patterns' is covered in some detail. Students have the opportunity to design an item of homeware, jewellery or other small product that is developed to the point of manufacture. Other processes covered in this subject are laser and water jet cutting, as well as chemical etching – all of which can be very easily adapted to the manufacture of small decorative products.
