Undergraduate

This subject deals with the comparative method of legal research and examines the growing 'interdependence' and similarity of the civil law, socialist and the common law systems.

It consists of two sections. The first section is concerned with an introduction to the major legal systems in the world. Emphasis is placed on a study of the development of the Romano-Germanic system of law, the formation of the socialist legal system and the law of the United States of America. These legal systems are compared with the common law system. Among the topics covered is a study of the meaning, sources and structure of law in the legal systems under consideration. The second section is devoted more specifically to the civil law method. Other topics discussed in the subject include the legal profession and legal education in civil law as well as in various countries.

Note(s)
