This subject enables students to: account for the broad range of individual differences among primary school students; appraise the basic principles of student-centred learning as it relates to formal and informal teaching/learning contexts; synthesise a range of pedagogical skills which meet the needs of individuals in small group and whole class contexts; understand and apply the theories of small group functioning; and justify the inclusion of more student participation in the teaching/learning process.
The field experience component of this subject occurs in an informal community-based educational setting. The setting provides learning experiences for primary-aged students. The field component may be undertaken as a block or distributed over the semester.
