Requisite(s): 023511 Developmental Psychology AND 023111 Practicum 1: Beginning Teaching
Undergraduate
Subject coordinator: Alan Scully
The focus of this subject is the development of knowledge and skill in classroom management, including teacher planning, student engagement, and teacher–student interaction. The skills associated with classroom management are central to effective teaching practice, enabling the teacher to make informed and appropriate decisions as they relate to daily life in the primary school. Through an integration of learning experiences on the campus and in the field, students examine the theoretical underpinnings of effective classroom management, and practise a range of managment skills.
The field component of this subject has a teaching focus and takes the form of a block placement in a regular school setting. This setting is intended to be the same as for Practicum 1.
