Overview

This course is designed for graduates and those without formal qualifications working within this field.

This course is unique in Australia as it brings together the disciplines of ecology, hydrogeology, resource management and plant ecophysiology – all necessary for the sustainable management of our groundwater resources.

In these postgraduate subjects students are taught a range of methods and knowledge enabling them to identify groundwater dependent ecosystems, assess their vulnerability and uniqueness, and develop appropriate management plans.

Course aims

The course aims to increase and enhance the knowledge and ability of those concerned and involved with the management of land, catchments, groundwater resources and ecosystem health.

Career options

Career options may include private or industry consultant or in government agencies.

Articulation

Work completed for the Graduate Certificate in Ecology and Groundwater Studies, and the Graduate Diploma in Ecology and Groundwater Studies (C07084), may be credited towards the Master of Science in Ecology and Groundwater Studies (C04169), since they all share the same core coursework subjects. However, completion of the requirements for the Graduate Certificate does not guarantee admission to the Graduate Diploma or the Master of Science courses.

Additional admission requirements

Candidates may be admitted to the Master's course with a four-year Bachelor of Science or Engineering Honours degree from a recognised tertiary institution, or to the Graduate Diploma or Graduate Certificate with a three-year Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree from a recognised tertiary institution, or equivalent qualification. Candidates without a degree but with suitable work experience may enrol in the Graduate Certificate and later transfer to a Graduate Diploma or Master's with full credit for completed subjects.

Course duration and attendance

The Graduate Certificate is offered on a one-year full-time basis depending on subject availability, or on a two-year part-time basis.

Course structure

The course requires 24 credit points of study.
