Overview

This course offers two options.

Stream 1 provides an introduction to information technology for those uncertain of their capabilities in the discipline, or those who wish to gain only a very basic knowledge of the area.

Stream 2 enables students with an IT or related degree to undertake a specialised sequence of subjects in an area not covered in their previous studies.

Career options

Career options include database manager, information manager, information officer, programmer analyst or systems analyst.

Articulation

This course is part of an articulated program of study comprising the Graduate Certificate in Information Technology, the Graduate Diploma in Information Technology (C06058), the Graduate Diploma in Professional Information Technology (C06089), and the Master of Information Technology (non-IT graduates) (C04217).

Additional admission requirements

Applicants entering Stream 1 require:

  • a minimum qualification equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from a recognised Australian university, and
  • little or no formal IT education and/or experience.

Applicants entering Stream 2 require:

  • a minimum qualification equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in information technology or a related discipline from a recognised Australian university, and
  • a minimum of two years' work experience in the IT area.

Additional recognition of prior learning

There are no exemptions granted in the Graduate Certificate in Information Technology.

Course duration and attendance

The Graduate Certificate is offered on a one-semester full-time or one-year part-time basis.

Course structure

The Graduate Certificate in Information Technology comprises 24 credit points of study.

Stream 1: Students normally take four of the core subjects offered in the Graduate Diploma in Information Technology but may, with the approval of the Program Leader, take up to two of the electives offered in the Graduate Diploma in place of core subjects.

Stream 2: Subjects are normally taken from the list of core and elective subjects offered in the Graduate Diploma in Information Technology. These subjects are undergraduate in content.
