Overview

The Graduate Program in Social Inquiry aims to critically engage with questions of social change, combining theory and practice and deliberately crossing disciplinary divides.

Course aims

Students completing this course are able to draw on a conceptual base spanning sociology, politics and cultural studies that is academically rigorous and socially relevant; bring together social research and advocacy through qualitative methodology, action research and collaborative social inquiry; and develop rigorous and systematic approaches to social practice, with a focus on advocacy and communication.

Course duration and attendance

This course is offered on a one-and-a-half-year full-time, or equivalent part-time basis.

Course structure

This course comprises 72 credit points of study. Students complete three compulsory subjects equivalent to 24 credit points, plus a Master's project equivalent to 16 credit points. In addition, students choose four elective subjects equivalent to 32 credit points from a bank of available subjects.

Full-time students undertake 24 credit points per semester. Part-time students should undertake 16 credit points per semester.
