This combined degree is a recognised adult teaching/training qualification, designed to equip students with skills in teaching, designing and evaluating learning and training programs for adults in workplace and educational settings. Students engage in a variety of learning activities and complete a core set of adult education subjects, a choice of electives, and select a major in either human resource development, vocational education and training, language literacy and numeracy education, or Indigenous studies. As part of the combined degree students study and learn another language and culture, and spend a year overseas studying in their country major choice.
This course enhances students' professional development, skills and career prospects in adult education. It provides opportunities to interact with other professionals and develop important professional networks. The combined degree also provides students with the opportunity to study and learn another language and culture. This course is a TAFE NSW recognised adult teaching qualification.
The course aims to develop practitioners who have competence in teaching and training adults, a deep understanding of learning and a commitment to the education of others.
It also aims to provide students with the opportunity to study and learn another language and culture, and do a year of overseas study in a country of their major choice.
Career options include human resource development and workplace training in the private or public sector, developing staff or managing organisational change, vocational education in TAFE, private colleges, the armed forces, the police service, emergency services, or health care agencies, Aboriginal education, or working with adults developing their language, literacy and numeracy skills.
The course is a qualification leading to work in TAFE, AMES, community colleges, and English and language schools.
Students must apply directly to UTS.
The course is offered on a five-year, full-time basis. Students spend their fourth year studying overseas. Subjects are offered in weekly and/or block mode.
