This subject provides an introduction to the principles of operation and use of typical devices encountered in medical practice. Specific emphasis is given to various methods of transducing information from the body such as pressure, internal voltage signals, (ECG, Emg), temperature, sound, respiratory volumes, and blood oxygen saturation. Principles of active stimulation of various organs such as heart, muscle and the ear are also taught. Fundamental principles underpinning the main medical imaging modalities will also be presented. An overview of the regulatory framework imaging modalities explored is also given.
