91154 Ecology

6cp
Requisite(s): 91101 Cells, Genetics and Evolution OR 91102 Animal Function and Diversity

This second-year subject in ecology takes the concepts introduced in the subject Contemporary Environmental Issues, and expands upon them to present students with more complex ecological issues – both theoretical and empirical. This subject is an important link to a range of third-year subjects. The focus is on important ecological concepts and the search for unifying ecological principles. Empirical examples are drawn equitably from across a range of organisms (invertebrates and vertebrates) and from a diverse array of ecosystems (aquatic and terrestrial). There is an emphasis on cutting-edge concepts in ecology. Additional to the subject are two one-day field trips.
