This course is not offered to international students.
This is a short practical course designed for those interested in teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL) and who do not already have an initial teaching qualification.
This course provides graduates with an internationally recognised initial teaching qualification which prepares them for teaching in Australia or overseas.
The course aims to develop students' understanding of, and sensitivity to, the needs of adult language learners; develop students' understanding and knowledge of language, text, and context, relevant to the teaching and learning of languages; and enable students to achieve a basic level of competence as a teacher of English as a second or foreign language.
The Graduate Certificate in Language Teaching in TESOL articulates into the Graduate Diploma in Language Teaching in TESOL (C07092), which provides a broader and more extensive teacher preparation in TESOL.
The essential entry requirement is an undergraduate degree. Preference is given to applicants who have prior experience in ESL/EFL contexts.
Recognition of prior learning may be granted on the basis of prior teacher training or experience in the area of ESL/EFL. Recognition of prior learning is decided on a case-by-case basis.
The Graduate Certificate is normally completed over one year of part-time study. Attendance at some Saturday workshops is required.
The Graduate Certificate in Language Teaching in TESOL consists of four compulsory 6-credit-point core subjects totalling 24 credit points.
