Overview

The UTS Master of Property Development and Project Management is designed to enhance knowledge and opportunities for professionals in property and project management, and to enable graduates in related fields to extend their qualifications and expertise to embark on careers in property development and project management.

The course provides a mix of foundational and advanced knowledge in both disciplines. Students develop an appreciation of the ways the two fields work together as they gain knowledge and experience in applying concepts in both disciplines. Examples include learning how to balance private and public interests in urban development, how to assess development feasibility, and how to apply the principles of project management.

Career options

Graduates of the UTS Master of Property Development and Project Management are equipped to move into careers in the property or project management disciplines. For those already working as property and project management professionals, the course opens up opportunities to move into more senior roles and enhance their leadership in those industries. Career options include a wide range of property and project management positions in both the public and private sectors.

Course intended learning outcomes

A.1 Identify and evaluate actual or potential ethical issues and determine sound ethical judgements in property development, project management, and / or scholarly contexts

C.1 Interpret and communicate knowledge, skills and ideas to specialist and non-specialist audiences in property development, project management, and / or scholarly contexts
C.2 Work effectively in project teams in property development, project management, and / or scholarly contexts
I.1 Formulate appropriate alternative solutions applying creativity and initiative to complex problems in property development, project management, and / or related academic contexts
P.1 Integrate knowledge related to a wide spectrum of property and project management issues to the analysis of practice based scenarios

Admission requirements

Applicants must have completed a UTS recognised bachelor's degree, or an equivalent or higher qualification, or submitted other evidence of general and professional qualifications that demonstrates potential to pursue graduate studies.

Applicants must have one of the following:

  • a UTS Graduate Diploma in Property Development
  • a UTS Graduate Certificate in Project Management
  • a UTS recognised bachelor's degree, or equivalent, or higher qualification from one of the following disciplines: architecture and building, engineering, management and commerce, law, economics and econometrics
  • applicants without a qualification listed above must have a minimum of one (1) year relevant work experience demonstrated through:
    • a CV clearly articulating project management experience; AND
    • an employer's letter confirming the dates of employment, and the position held; AND
    • a personal statement (max. 300 words) explaining the reasons for wanting to study project management and demonstrating an understanding of basic project management concepts gained from work experience and knowledge of course expectations.

The English proficiency requirement for international students or local applicants with international qualifications is: Academic IELTS: 6.5 overall with a writing score of 6.0; or TOEFL: paper based: 550-583 overall with TWE of 4.5, internet based: 79-93 overall with a writing score of 21; or AE5: Pass; or PTE: 58-64 with a writing score of 50; or C1A/C2P: 176-184 with a writing score of 169.

International students

Visa requirement: To obtain a student visa to study in Australia, international students must enrol full time and on campus. Australian student visa regulations also require international students studying on student visas to complete the course within the standard full-time duration. Students can extend their courses only in exceptional circumstances.

Recognition of prior learning

Exemptions of up to 24 credit points may be given for equivalent prior learning. Applicants with a four-year degree in a related field of study may be given up to 24 credit points of exemptions.

Course duration and attendance

The course duration is two years of full-time or four years of part-time study.

Course structure

Students must complete 96 credit points made up of 72 credit points of core subjects and 24 credit points of electives.

The course is accredited by both the Australian Property Institute and the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, as well as its accredited by the Project Management Institute's (PMI) Global Accreditation Centre for Project Management Education Programs (GAC) and the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). The Master of Project Management is also endorsed by the Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM).
