Description
This subject provides for supervision of students who are developing a proposal for higher degree research. Students are guided in developing research questions, in selection of an appropriate theoretical lens, and in methods for data collection and interpretation. Outcomes of the subject include a robust proposal for higher degree research that is supported by a developed understanding of the different roles of theory and method, as well as an understanding of the discipline involved in academic writing and argument.

89032 Research Studio encourages student learning directed to develop the graduate attributes identified in the section on Subject Learning Objectives, above. The course content, learning strategies and assessment structure is explicitly designed with these attributes in mind.
Teaching and learning strategies
This studio aims to develop skills in independent/self directed/negotiated research skills. It provides an opportunity to integrate conceptual and practical research skills, and focuses on the completion of a self-determined and self-generated project. The studio prioritises learning outcomes in: research, critical thinking, conceptual thinking, argument and judgment. The emphasis is on independent/self directed/negotiated projects, supported by an academic supervisor.

The content of each supervised project is determined in conversation between the student and supervisor.
