Description

This subject prepares students to enter the IT industry through the refinement of their professional understanding and insights from their work integrated learning experience. Students also further develop their professional artefacts such as a public-facing portfolio, CV and self-presentation, in readiness for job applications.

Subject learning objectives (SLOs)

Upon successful completion of this subject students should be able to:

1. Demonstrate personal commitment to, and capability to fulfil, their obligations to the IT professional community.
2. Reflect upon their professional capabilities and attributes and communicate these succinctly to potential employers and the wider professional IT community.
3. Communicate their professional capabilities and attributes succinctly to potential employers and the wider professional community.

Course intended learning outcomes (CILOs)

This subject also contributes specifically to the development of the following Course Intended Learning Outcomes (CILOs):

  • Socially Responsible: FEIT graduates identify, engage, interpret and analyse stakeholder needs and cultural perspectives, establish priorities and goals, and identify constraints, uncertainties and risks (social, ethical, cultural, legislative, environmental, economics etc.) to define the system requirements.   • Collaborative and Communicative: FEIT graduates work as an effective member or leader of diverse teams, communicating effectively and operating within cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural contexts in the workplace. (E.1)

Contribution to the development of graduate attributes

The subject will assist students to demonstrate their attainment of Graduate Attributes and SFIA attributes relevant to the workplace.

Teaching and learning strategies

Students engage in four 2-hour interactive workshops delivered via MS Teams, and a showcase Professional Practice & Leadership Forum in which students present their work to industry representatives.

  • Students will be given instructions to create a Peer Review Group (PRG) channel in MS Teams with assigned group members to undertake small group learning activities during lectures and outside of class time.
All students are required to present at the Professional Practice & Leadership Forum (appears as seminar on your timetable). Students who are unable to present at the Forum may be able to apply for Special Consideration

Minimum requirements

In order to pass this subject a student must:

  • Attempt all assessment tasks, AND
  • Present Assessment Task 3 parts i & ii in the seminar class (PPL Forum), AND
  • Pass assessment tasks 2 & 3
Students who do not present Assessment Task 3 Part i & ii during the Professional Practice and Leadership Forum (Seminar on your timetable) may be refused permission to be considered for assessment in this subject under Student Rule 3.8.2, and a Fail will be recorded for this subject.
