Description
This subject introduces students to the key principles and practices of Transition Design. Transition Design is located in the history of efforts to articulate how design processes and outcomes can enable wider social change—drawing on the fields of Sustainable Design, Design for Social Innovation, and Systemic Design. Students are also introduced to the key fields of research and activism upon which Transition Design draws: Transition Management in the field of innovation and policy; post-development work; feminist postcapitalist work on communities economies, cooperatives and commons; Transition Towns and Degrowth; cosmopolitan localism, cosmolocalism, and designs for the pluriverse. The subject also explains the emerging practice of Transition Design, from systems mapping and problem reframing, through to design futuring.
