This subject explores fashion styling and art direction in relation to the associated industries. Through a series of lectures, tutorials and project work, students research, analyse and consider the messages conveyed through fashion visual imagery, and use this as a basis for concept development and application towards, for example, a catwalk show, magazine or an advertising campaign.

On successful completion of this subject, students should be able to:

Content (topics)
The subject is facilitated through a combination of lectures & design studio. Where relevant, site visits will be planned into the program to promote research methods and inquiry. Lectures promote theoretical inquiry and observation of case studies and pre-empt design studio; they are forums for explanation and contextualisation of briefs. This subject allows students to put into practice knowledge already gained in the course, it also provides an opportunity to extend or deepen their learning in specific areas. The subject will cover the following topic areas:
- The conception of fashion styling.
- Analysing the creative image - understanding the message.
- The partners involved; their roles and functions and the relationship with the designer.
- The role that fashion media plays in society through marketing and promoting design.
- Working to a given brief.
