Description

This subject is designed for students to re-examine, reflect upon, consolidate and extend learning from 92869 Speciality Clinical Practice. The subject focuses on students’ knowledge and skills development, including: clinical reasoning, education, research, leadership and effecting change in preparation for advanced practice roles.

Use of a professional portfolio will enable students’ to further identify their own learning needs and develop objectives relevant to their practice context. This review and further development will enhance comprehensive nursing knowledge through understanding, interpreting and applying evidence to advance practice.

The subject 92869 Specialty Clinical Practice must be successfully completed, before 96322 Advanced Professional Practice can be commenced.

Subject learning objectives (SLOs)

Upon successful completion of this subject students should be able to:
A. Discuss, analyse and apply concepts of advanced nursing practice in providing person-centred care within own practice setting.
B. Demonstrate effective communication skills enabling the transfer of complex knowledge, ideas and concepts with patients, families/significant others, carers and interdisciplinary team.
C. Provide culturally capable care and education to an identified population in own practice setting.
D. Demonstrate leadership, collaboration and proactivity including efficient use of resources and equity of access to services utilising sustainable models of health care.
E. Build clinical and educational competence through continuing professional development and life-long learning within the scope of advanced practice nursing.
