Description

In this animation practice-based, collaborative, inter-disciplinary research subject, students work with a project scenario that changes each session. Emphasis is placed on exploratory and experimental approaches to practice-based research and animation design responses. Designed responses may include a short animated work, test sequences, a series of photographs, drawings or illustrations; a motion graphics; interactive interfaces; exhibitions; experiences; models or visual essays; or other animation media as appropriate to the particular project offered.

Teaching and learning strategies

Face-to-face classes incorporate a range of teaching and learning strategies including lectures, discussions, studio activities and student presentations. These are complemented by independent student reading, participation in online forums, reflection on studio work, and group and individual project work.

Content (topics)

The subject is delivered through a series of lectures, screenings, discussions, demonstrations, presentations and laboratory practice sessions. Topics include conceptual design modelling, rendering and animation techniques, an overview of available professional three dimensional computer animation applications, and the range of industrial environments in which these operate. Special focus topics include a study of the design and use of hair and cloth attributes in three dimensional computer animation.
