Description

This subject focuses on the professional demands of visual communication practice. Students present project briefs integrating client consultation, teamwork, user studies, case studies, production sourcing, professional specification writing, pre- and post-production detailing and business. Students are called upon to research, analyse, process and present visualised concepts for complex projects real or equivalent to those undertaken in practice. This may occur in both individual and group-based projects.

Subject learning objectives (SLOs)

On successful completion of this subject, students should be able to:

1. undertake primary research (with a focus on users for content generation and /or testing) including but not limited to observation and conversational techniques and the analysis of material
2. undertake secondary research including but not limited to library and internet research
3. experiment and investigate systems of organisation and visual language
4. originate diverse and imaginative ideas as hand or technologically generated visuals
5. develop original visuals relevant to the specific demands of the project brief
6. comprehensively process visuals through critical reflection, evaluation and refinement
7. demonstrate sensitivity to media selection, use, application and specification
8. visually communicate solutions with clarity and functionality
9. produce visual work which has impact and engages the intended viewer/audience
10. present project solutions in visual, oral and written forms with thought, care and skill
