Upon successful completion of this subject students should be able to:

1. Demonstrate personal commitment to, and capability to fulfill, their obligations to the engineering community.
2. Communicate succinctly their professional capabilities and attributes to potential employers and the wider professional engineering community.

Course intended learning outcomes (CILOs)

This subject also contributes specifically to the development of the following Course Intended Learning Outcomes (CILOs):

  • Socially Responsible: FEIT graduates identify, engage, interpret and analyse stakeholder needs and cultural perspectives, establish priorities and goals, and identify constraints, uncertainties and risks (social, ethical, cultural, legislative, environmental, economics etc.) to define the system requirements. (B.1)
  • Collaborative and Communicative: FEIT graduates work as an effective member or leader of diverse teams, communicating effectively and operating within cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural contexts in the workplace. (E.1)
  • Reflective: FEIT graduates critically self-review their performance to improve themselves, their teams, and the broader community and society. (F.1)

Teaching and learning strategies

This subject is taught in five 2-hour lectures delivered via MS Teams, and scheduled in weeks 2, 3, 4, 7 and 8. Students will additionally be given instructions to create a Peer Review Group (PRG) with assigned group members in MS Teams to undertake small group learning activities.

Note: The presentation for task 3 takes place in the week 8 lecture. Students who are unable to present at this time need to advise the Subject Coordinator by email as soon as they can. Such students will be required to identify and arrange an alternative opportunity to present. They will need to negotiate this with the Subject Coordinator at least 3 weeks prior to the week 8 lecture. Any student who fails to fulfill these requirements will be subject to Late Penalty clause c (see Late Penalty section in this Subject Outline) for Assessment task 3.
