Overview
UTS's Project Management program provides an immersive learning environment for both aspiring and experienced project managers. This course equip students with the underlying knowledge and practical experience that drive project delivery across all industry sectors, from construction to information technology.
The UTS program was the first Australian program to be accredited by the Project Management Institute's (PMI) Global Accreditation Centre. The foundation subjects are compatible with the structures used by the PMI and Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM) to certify practitioners.
At a master's level, students have the opportunity to develop a specialised skillset by choosing a sub-major in business, construction, engineering, IT, local government management or health, combining project management disciplines with sector-focused knowledge.
To cater for busy work schedules, UTS delivers classes in an intensive block mode. This creates an immersive experience where students work with their peers in a team-based, simulated project environment.
Students also gain practical experience by working on real-life projects, in the classroom, on site or using computer simulations. For example, students have recently developed project plans for the Jack Thompson Foundation, Complimentary Health Care Council of Australia (CHC) and a number of industry associations.
UTS academics are at the forefront of project management research internationally. This breadth of knowledge ensures that students have access to leading-edge thinking applied in both project-specific and organisational contexts. Teaching staff include specialist guest lecturers from UTS as well as institutions and organisations in Australia and overseas.
Graduates possess a detailed understanding of how project management directly improves business productivity and profitability. They are able to deliver projects that help organisations achieve their strategic objectives.

Admission requirements
Applicants must have completed a UTS recognised bachelor's degree, or an equivalent or higher qualification, or submitted other evidence of general and professional qualifications that demonstrates potential to pursue graduate studies.
Applicants must have one of the following:
- a UTS recognised bachelor's degree, or equivalent, or
- a UTS Graduate Certificate in Project Management, or
- a UTS Graduate Diploma in Project Management, or
- a UTS Graduate Diploma in Construction Management.
Applications based on a UTS recognised bachelor's degree or equivalent must provide the following:
- a minimum of one year relevant work experience (see note below), and
- a CV clearly articulating project management experience, and
- an employer's letter confirming the dates of employment, and the position held, and
- a personal statement (max. 300 words) explaining the reasons for wanting to study project management and demonstrating an understanding of basic project management concepts gained from work experience and knowledge of course expectations.
Note: Work experience from within the following ANZSCO Occupation descriptors is deemed as relevant: 13. Specialist Managers, 22. Business, Human Resources and Marketing Professionals, 23. Design, Engineering, Science and Transport Professions, 26. ICT Professions, 31. Engineering, ICT and Science Technicians, 33. Construction Trades Workers, 34. Electrotechnology and Telecommunication Trades Workers and 51. Office Managers and Program Administrators.
The English proficiency requirement for international students or local applicants with international qualifications is: Academic IELTS: 6.5 overall with a writing score of 6.0; or TOEFL: paper based: 550-583 overall with TWE of 4.5, internet based: 79-93 overall with a writing score of 21; or AE5: Pass; or PTE: 58-64; or CAE: 176-184.
Eligibility for admission does not guarantee offer of a place.
International students
Visa requirement: To obtain a student visa to study in Australia, international students must enrol full time and on campus. Australian student visa regulations also require international students studying on student visas to complete the course within the standard full-time duration. Students can extend their courses only in exceptional circumstances.
Recognition of prior learning
Exemptions of up to 24 credit points may be given for equivalent prior learning. Applicants with a four-year degree in a related field of study may be given up to 24 credit points of exemptions.
Course duration and attendance
The course is offered on a one-and-a-half-year, full-time or three-year, part-time basis. Because the intensive workshops are widely spaced throughout the year, many students choose to accelerate the part-time master's program and complete it within two years.

Articulation with UTS courses
This course is part of an articulated program comprising the Graduate Certificate in Project Management (C11005), the Graduate Diploma in Project Management (C07004) and the Master of Project Management. Each stage is self-contained and can be undertaken through part-time or full-time study.
The graduate diploma is offered as an exit point for students who do not wish to go on to complete the master's degree but who otherwise finish with 48 credit points. Direct entry to the graduate diploma is not available.
Articulation from the graduate certificate to the Master of Project Management is allowed with the approval of the course director.
Professional recognition
This program is accredited by the Project Management Institute's (PMI) Global Accreditation Centre for Project Management Education Programs (GAC) and the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
