Course duration and attendance

The course is taught on a full-time basis. The normal time for completion is three years. Students should be aware that they may be required to attend evening classes.

Course structure

All students must complete a total of 144 credit points made up of 24 subjects, comprising 12 core subjects (72 credit points), a major comprising eight subjects (48 credit points) and four elective subjects (24 credit points).

Electives or structured elective sequences (totalling 24 credit points) can be taken from any faculty in the university, or from another university or its equivalent, with Business approval.

Students must select their major upon enrolment from any one of the following four majors: Digital Creative Enterprise, Events, Sport or Tourism.

  1. The Digital Creative Enterprise major is designed to prepare students to work in digital industries across creative and non-creative sectors as specialist and embedded creative professionals. Therefore, students in this particular major undertake cross-faculty, transdisciplinary studies through Creative Intelligence and Innovation subjects that emphasise versatility, agility and collaboration.
  2. Students in the Events major benefit from the close relationships UTS has developed with industry, which allow the university to deliver relevant, applied and high-quality event management education. Students develop a solid understanding of the sequential steps associated with the design, development, planning, promoting and implementing of innovative events, as well as the political, economic and social contexts in which events take place. The event major provides students with the knowledge and professional skills necessary to embark on a career in the events industry.
  3. The multi-billion dollar sport industry has experienced significant growth in professionalism, revenue generation and number of people in all levels of management, in both the professional and community sport sectors. UTS is uniquely placed with expertise and networks across multiple codes of sport as well as international and national sports bodies. Through applied knowledge and professional internships, the Sport Business major allows students to gain a thorough understanding of Australian and international sports industries, the role sport plays in culture and society, and the interrelationships between sports bodies and key stakeholders.
  4. The Tourism major provides exposure to professional practice in all sectors of national and global tourism through dynamic and multifaceted modes of practice-orientated education. These include field visits, exposure to a leading travel industry guest speaker and the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to the internship program. In all tourism subjects there is a strong emphasis on applying theory to industry practice though individual and group reports and industry projects.

Industrial training/professional practice

Each major within the course has a compulsory professional internship program and a capstone industry-based project.

Students should not enrol 21651 Professional Internship in the last session of study to ensure that completion of required hours of work will not impact on graduation and/or international students' visa conditions.
