Overview
This course prepares graduates for teaching in primary and secondary settings. It is a practice-oriented course that aims to produce high-quality graduates through a program integrating the latest educational theory. Students continually develop teaching competence throughout the degree with a comprehensive and engaging professional experience program. It provides graduates with advanced knowledge of teacher education and research. Graduates undertake a scholarly piece of work, working with an academic supervisor and representing the research community in educational settings.
Most subjects are delivered in blended mode, incorporating the faculty's new classrooms and online learning spaces. Students study innovative teaching methods in the key learning areas and explore contemporary issues and applications, including technology-enhanced learning and learning analytics.
Career options
Career options include primary teaching (kindergarten to year 6) or secondary teaching (years 7–12) in English, languages, mathematics, science, social science or PDHPE in a public or private school, locally and internationally.

Admission requirements
Applicants must have completed an Australian Year 12 qualification, Australian Qualifications Framework Diploma, or equivalent Australian or overseas qualification at the required level.
For this course, applicants must have completed two years of the Bachelor of Arts Bachelor of Education (C10350) at an appropriate level. The following requirements also apply:
- applicants must have at least a credit grade point average by the end of second year of the Bachelor of Arts Bachelor of Education (C10350)
- applicants must submit a 500 word written expression of interest indicating a possible research topic and their reasons for applying for Honours
- the applicant's chosen research topic must fit in with one of the research programs
- appropriately qualified staff must be available to supervise the Honours component.
Entry to Honours is competitive as only a limited number of students are accepted. Honours candidates are ranked in terms of academic merit over the first two years of Bachelor of Arts Bachelor of Education (C10350), and the fit of topic with a research program.
The English proficiency requirement for international students or local applicants with international qualifications is: Academic IELTS: 7.5 overall, with a minimum of 8.0 in both the speaking and listening modules, and a reading and writing score of 7.0; or TOEFL: paper based: 610-633 overall with TWE of 5.0, internet based: 102-109 overall with a writing score of 27; or PTE: 73-78 overall with a 79 in both the speaking and listening, and a reading and writing score of 65; or CAE: 191-199 overall with 200 in both the speaking and listening, and a reading and writing score of 185.

International students
Visa requirement: To obtain a student visa to study in Australia, international students must enrol full time and on campus. Australian student visa regulations also require international students studying on student visas to complete the course within the standard full-time duration. Students can extend their courses only in exceptional circumstances.
Course duration and attendance
The course duration is four years of full-time study. The course may also be undertaken at a reduced load, provided it is completed within six years.
Course structure
Students must complete 192 credit points made up of 30 credit points of core subjects and a 162-credit-point major. Students complete a 24-credit-point honours component within the 162-credit-point major.
Industrial training/professional practice
Students undertake professional experience totalling 80 days of supervised teaching practice in schools. An international professional experience placement is also offered.

Professional recognition
The course provides a teaching qualification in primary, secondary or K–12 schools. It is recognised by the NSW Department of Education and Training, Independent Schools Association, Catholic Education Office, and is also recognised interstate and internationally. This course has been submitted to the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) for professional accreditation and its determination is still to be finalised. To gain employment as a teacher in NSW schools, graduates must meet the requirements of the NESA, including language proficiency and mathematics.
