Overview

This course is designed for both property and real estate investment practitioners, and graduates in related fields who wish to extend their qualifications and expertise in property development and investment. Graduates have a commitment to professionalism in the property and real estate investment sectors.

This course is for property and investment professionals who want to upgrade their qualifications or expertise or for those who wish to enter the property and real estate investment industries. In the first year students develop an understanding of how to balance private and public interests in urban development, how to evaluate real estate assets, and how to assess development feasibility.

Course intended learning outcomes

A.1 Ability to identify and evaluate actual or potential ethical issues and determine sound ethical judgments in property development, investment, and / or scholarly contexts
A.2 Ability to reflect on one's personal views and values and to comprehensively consider alternate views and propositions in property development, investment, and / or scholarly contexts
A.3 Understand the history of Indigenous Australians and their property rights, and apply this understanding to property and investment issues
C.1 Ability to interpret and communicate knowledge, skills and ideas to specialist and non-specialist audiences in property development, investment, and / or scholarly contexts
C.2 Ability to work effectively in project teams in property development, investment, and / or scholarly contexts
I.1 Ability to formulate appropriate alternative solutions applying creativity and initiative to complex problems in property development, investment, and / or related academic contexts
P.1 Ability to integrate knowledge related to a wide spectrum of property issues to the analysis of practiced based scenarios
P.2 Ability to apply a comprehensive understanding of contemporary theory in the financial management and financing of property developments to professional practice and investment decisions
R.1 Ability to apply and demonstrate knowledge of research principles and methods applicable to property development, investment, and / or related scholarly contexts

Career options

Career options include positions in banking and government instrumentalities, real estate finance, property management and development, and real estate investment.

Admission requirements

Applicants must have completed a UTS recognised bachelor's degree, or an equivalent or higher qualification, or submitted other evidence of general and professional qualifications that demonstrates potential to pursue graduate studies.

Applicants must have a UTS recognised bachelor's degree, or equivalent, from one of the following disciplines: architecture and building, engineering, management and commerce, law, economics and econometrics, finance, with at least a credit average.

All applicants need to provide a:

  • personal statement (max. 500 words) explaining their reasons for wanting to study property development and investment
  • CV clearly articulating their property or finance/investment-related work experience (minimum of two years).

The English proficiency requirement for international students or local applicants with international qualifications is: Academic IELTS: 6.5 overall with a writing score of 6.0; or TOEFL: paper based: 550-583 overall with TWE of 4.5, internet based: 79-93 overall with a writing score of 21; or AE5: Pass; or PTE: 58-64; or CAE: 176-184.

Eligibility for admission does not guarantee offer of a place.

International students

Visa requirement: To obtain a student visa to study in Australia, international students must enrol full time and on campus. Australian student visa regulations also require international students studying on student visas to complete the course within the standard full-time duration. Students can extend their courses only in exceptional circumstances.

Course duration and attendance

The course duration is two years of full-time or four years of part-time study.

Course structure

Students must complete 96 credit points made up of 90 credit points of core subjects and a 6-credit-point elective.
