Overview
This course is a general education degree. It provides a pathway into teacher education for students who do not obtain the entry requirement of a minimum of three Band 5 HSC results, including one in English. The course enables transfer with credit recognition to the Bachelor of Arts Bachelor of Education (C10350) after completion of study equivalent to Band 5 levels has been achieved.
This course offers a pathway for students who do not meet the Band 5 entry requirements for a teacher education degree. Students considering this pathway to teaching should select the BA Educational Studies when applying through UAC as their second preference after the BABEd. This pathway allows students to complete comparable UTS subjects of similar or higher standards as equivalent to achieving HSC Band 5 results in a variety of discipline subjects as required. Students in this pathway will be able to claim academic credit if they transfer into the BABEd.

Career options include curriculum consultant, educational researcher and educator in a community setting such as a hospital or community or migrant education centre.
Admission requirements
Applicants must have completed an Australian Year 12 qualification, Australian Qualifications Framework Diploma, or equivalent Australian or overseas qualification at the required level.
The English proficiency requirement for international students or local applicants with international qualifications is: Academic IELTS: 6.5 overall with a writing score of 6.0; or TOEFL: paper based: 550-583 overall with TWE of 4.5, internet based: 79-93 overall with a writing score of 21; or AE5: Pass; or PTE: 58-64; or CAE: 176-184

International students
Visa requirement: To obtain a student visa to study in Australia, international students must enrol full time and on campus. Australian student visa regulations also require international students studying on student visas to complete the course within the standard full-time duration. Students can extend their courses only in exceptional circumstances.

Exit award
This course enables students originally enrolled in the Bachelor of Education in Primary Education (C10206), Bachelor of Education in Special Education (C10207), Bachelor of Education Bachelor of Arts in International Studies (C10208) or the Bachelor of Teaching in Secondary Education (C08002) to transfer to this course and graduate with a three-year, non-teaching qualification.
Professional recognition
The course is not a recognised teaching qualification but it does provide a general education qualification and a pathway to a teaching qualification for students who do not meet teacher education Band 5 direct entry requirements.
