Description
Students in this subject undertake a minimum of 16 weeks of full-time or equivalent part-time work experience in a legal office environment. Practical experience placements must be approved in advance by the UTS Faculty of Law Practical Experience Committee and completed in accordance with the practical experience rules. Students must complete their practical experience work placement within five semesters of enrolling in this subject.
Subject objectives
Upon successful completion of this subject students should be able to:
1. | Apply their knowledge and understanding of the law, the legal system and legal practice acquired by completion of an appropriate law degree to legal practice |

2. | Utilise their advanced knowledge and skills for legal professional work to integrate, synthesise and extend their learning of law |
3. | Demonstrate autonomy, well-developed judgement, adaptability and responsibility as a practitioner |
4. | Have a sense of professional identity as an entry level lawyer |
5. | Demonstrate an entry-level lawyer competence in the skills, practice areas and values as prescribed in the Sixth Schedule to the Legal Profession Admission Rules 2005. |

Teaching and learning strategies
Practical experience activities include:
2.1 Experience in the routines, procedures and dynamics commonly found in offices in which legal services are provided;
2.2 Contact with and responsibility to the clients (broadly defined) of the office or organisation in which the practical experience is undertaken;
2.3 Experience in or observation of the provision of legal services; and
2.4 Experience of the process of becoming a professional in the context of the delivery of legal services.
