Handbook description

Engineers Australia requires that all students graduating from accredited professional engineering courses have a minimum of 12 weeks (or equivalent) of professional practice. This subject assesses students' claims to meeting this requirement. It involves the writing of a report demonstrating learning outcomes and reflecting on experience as well as a seminar presentation to share experiences with other students and learn from them. The assessment tasks and the subject are assessed as pass/fail.

Subject objectives

Upon successful completion of this subject students should be able to:

1. Meet the requirements for professional practice as required by Engineers Australia for students in accredited professional engineering courses.
2. Integrate theoretical knowledge with professional practice
3. Conduct critical self-review and performance evaluation against appropriate criteria as a primary means of tracking personal development needs and achievements.
4. Demonstrate competent levels in written and oral communication.

This subject also contributes specifically to the development of the following course intended learning outcomes:

  • Manage own time and processes effectively by prioritising competing demands to achieve personal goals (Manage self) (D.1)

Scenario
You are applying for a job with an outstanding organisation and as part of the interview process are expected give a formal presentation to brief them on your past experience, and demonstrate the strengths you would bring to the organisation. You should be prepared to answer questions from the audience.

Minimum requirements

In order to pass the subject, you must:

  1. submit a professional practice portfolio as specified in this document and that is of a competent standard; AND
  2. attend and participate in one group seminar presentation session as specified in this document. Your presentation must be of a competent standard. AND
  3. Certified or original Company letter
