Overview

The Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication emphasises creativity, innovation and communication in the analysis and visualisation of ideas and information through print, screen and interactive multimedia technologies. Students are encouraged to develop their own creative abilities and to be aware of the broader cultural, social and political impact of their design work.

This course teaches conceptual skills and design processing in the context of communication, not just technical skills. Students gain broad-based visual communication design abilities with an emphasis on ideas, essential for their development into senior roles in the industry. Apart from the 20-day work experience in third year, internships and overseas exchange are encouraged. Subjects in the course are centred on integrated and interdisciplinary activities.

Course aims

This course produces graduates who work with words, images and audio in a diverse range of visual design practices. It also prepares students for diversity in design practice and expects graduates to aspire to the highest professional levels. Students develop individual talent and imagination by specialising in media and projects suited to their own professional interests.

Career options

Career options include design roles in graphic design, publishing, advertising, animation, film, television, exhibitions, government agencies, not-for-profit and corporate sectors.
