Handbook description

The notion of health and its assessment is studied in this subject. Systems-based assessment practices which include the physiological measurement of factors such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse and respiration, urinalysis, levels of hydration, mobility, common blood tests and sensory evaluations are examined including their applications and the implications of their variations in assessing the health status of childbearing women. Concepts and assessment that relate to social and mental health are examined. Students make their first relationships with childbearing women and will follow a number of these women through the experience of childbearing.
