Handbook description

In this subject, students undertake a detailed study of anatomy and physiology with particular focus on pregnancy and childbirth. This study includes cellular structure, meiosis and mitosis, embryology and the adaption of the neonate to extrauterine life, the adaptive changes of pregnancy, processes of labour and parturition, the changes in the woman's body to her non pregnant state and the initiation and maintenance of lactation. Physiological origins and their implications to deviations from normal throughout the childbearing cycle for both the woman and her baby are studied.
