This subject introduces students to legal principles and laws as they relate to leisure, events, sport and tourism activity and their management. It covers law as it affects the leisure participant, the tourist and the sportsperson, the leisure professional, the event manager, the tourism manager and the sports administrator.
Subject objectives/outcomes
On successful completion of this subject students should be able to:
- discuss legal principles and statutes relevant to the leisure, tourism or sports professional manager or administrator
- recognise their legal responsibilities and liabilities
- understand the legal process, i.e. the court system, law making, case management, and implementation and resolution
- identify legal obligations in management contexts
- describe and apply the function of law in our leisure, events, sport and tourism behaviour.
Contribution to graduate profile
This is a core subject in the Bachelor of Management in Events and Leisure, Bachelor of Management in Tourism and the Bachelor of Management in Sport and Exercise programs. It is considered critical that responsible management and professional personnel have knowledge of relevant legal responsibilities and duties. This subject provides students with a basic understanding of the legal system and laws pertinent to the providers of services in leisure, events, tourism, sport and exercise management. It therefore provides the legal context in which they will operate in their professional careers.
