This subject provides Honours students with the opportunity to explore in greater depth the major themes and issues pertaining to their area of research. It enables students to recognise the contribution of the literature relevant to their research problem. It also allows students to use the literature to develop the theoretical and conceptual framework of their Honours thesis.
Subject objectives/outcomes
On successful completion of this subject students should be able to:
- Identify the major themes and issues pertaining to their Honours research area.
- Recognise the contribution of the existing literature to their research problem.
- Apply the outcomes of their reading to the theoretical and conceptual framework of the honours thesis.

This core subject in the Honours program provides students with the opportunity to develop further knowledge and understanding of the existing literature that informs their substantive research area.
Teaching and learning strategies
This subject is taught through individual research and tutorial sessions with the honours thesis supervisor.
Content
- The content of this subject will be defined through a process of consultation between the Honours co-ordinator, Thesis Supervisor and the student
- A prescribed set of reading tasks will be assigned by the Thesis Supervisor
