This subject covers the following topics: quantitative methods, reliability studies, automation, data processing and numerical analysis in clinical microbiology; pathogenic microorganisms – their handling (including safety requirements), cultivation, isolation and relationship to the indigenous flora of humans and animals; a detailed study of staphylococci, streptococci, coryne-bacteria, mycobacteria, neisseria, enteric bacteria, pasteurellae, pseudo monads and spirochaetes; and antibiotics and antibiotic sensitivity testing.
